2016 in Review - Winnipeg Wedding Florist

Well, I guess I blinked. Again. Just like that, it's somehow the end of the year. Wedding season came and went in a flash. I feel like I barely remember any of it, but then I think a little harder, and my goodness, were there some good (no -- great!) things that happened this year. Here's a few highlights!

Early this summer, I invited my friend Aly of Victoria Anne Photography to come and check out my studio. I really love my space. It's actually the reason why we bought this house!

I created this photo shoot, taking inspiration from a subtle but beautiful colour palette and bringing together some of my wedding friend-ors (vendor friends!). This was featured on Utterly Engaged and Vale & Vine

Oh yeah, and these photos led the launch of my brand new site! I also worked alongside Prairie Film Co on a brand video, which you can check out below to see me working :)

Planning your Winnipeg wedding? Need to find your florist? Here's your behind-the-scenes look at Stone House Creative, a Winnipeg-based studio florist specializing in weddings. I work with an organic, garden-inspired design style and love intimate celebrations, big bridal bouquets, and beautiful ceremony spaces.

I had the privilege of working on my largest wedding to date, which was a total dream day.

There were so many great parts of this wedding. I honestly don't know how to describe it. At one point, during setup, I looked around at my team working away on the tablescapes, and I just felt this incredible sense of pride. Everything was awesome -- the weather was great, the flowers were beautiful, and I just loved being a part of this day.

I travelled to Texas to visit a dear friend (who also happens to be a floral designer!), and we joined up with Bows & Arrows Flowers for a two-on-one floral session. It was featured on Style Me Pretty! Also on that trip, we went to Magnolia Market which was really fun -- my husband and I are both huge Chip and Jo fans :)

I was thrilled and honoured that one of my bouquets was chosen by Weddingbells Magazine as one of Canada's Most Beautiful Bouquets. It was really fun to create this bouquet, as I used a number of different ingredients that I wouldn't normally. You can see more from this here

In November, Elle Decor selected this bridal bouquet as one of their FAVORITES in their "30 Best Wedding Bouquets." I was so excited! Even better, it was submitted by the editors at Wedding Sparrow as one of their favourites, so the whole situation was completely flattering. Photo by Kat Willson Photography.

2016 finished off with so much excitement, as I was featured on Host Winnipeg a bunch of times!
First up was a studio tour and career profile, in which I got to tell the story of how Stone House Creative came to be, followed by Katie and Dan's vineyard-inspired wedding! Host also featured Lauda and Jeremy's colourful garden wedding at Pine Ridge Hollow last week - more from that wedding will be on my blog in the New Year!

For one of my very last projects on 2016, I collaborated with Jaclyn, the editor at Host, on the creation of this holiday tablescape. I LOVED it. This took place at Hut K using a lot of their incredibly products, and photos by Janine Kropla. I'll be sharing more on the Stone House blog soon!

So with that, I want to say THANK YOU. Thank you to all of my couples who have trusted me with their flowers this year, inviting me into their celebrations in a small way. It's amazing to be a part of such a monumental day. I have prayed for each and every one of you, and wish you blessings for a lifelong marriage filled with happiness, good health, and amazing relationships. Marriage is a wonderful gift!

Cheers to 2016. Bring on the New Year!

Elegant Blue Wedding Ideas at Cielo's Garden

Here is another of the styled tablescapes I helped to create (this one, alongside Liz of Styled Wedding & Event Planning!) for our editorial day with Host Winnipeg this past spring, at Cielo's Garden. Liz went for a more elegant approach to her table design, choosing a gorgeous palette of dusty blue, white, soft green, and the tiniest hint of pale pinks. Rather than going with the typical glamorous or stuffy feel that an elegant wedding theme often has, Liz created a design more fitting for an elegant garden party. With this lush white and green centrepiece in my silver mercury glass compote, the look was complete!

Even better - I love seeing these images all over Liz's website. If you're looking for a fantastic day-of wedding coordinator, connect with her!

Kim and Adam's White and Green Summer Wedding at Bridges Golf Course

Kim and Adam's summer wedding at Bridges Golf Course was a great one! Especially great, because Kim is an incredibly caring and devoted friend, and my own little sister was one of Kim's bridesmaids so I know this for a fact :) She planned her wedding to perfection, had great ideas, and was incredibly organized. She sought a somewhat rustic aesthetic, which works really well with the decor at Bridges, and always looks good in a simple white and green palette!

In keeping with the rustic theme, I actually used twigs and branches within the bouquets, along with locally grown zinnias and scabiosa that brought a perfect summery, rustic texture.

I loved designing the flowers for this arch! Adam, the groom, built the wooden structure for me to use. I first added on the draping, which was quite a challenge because it was SUPER windy that day! I then added on this greenery garland, followed by the flowers designed in two separate pieces (they were later taken off of the arch and moved to the head table - I love getting double duty out of ceremony flowers!). I kept it simple, using just large headed white roses and white delphinium. Each bloom was nice and big, and I chose to place them each on a different plane. I find this creates a more natural feel, which is especially suitable for a rustic, outdoor wedding, rather than flowers designed in a dense, unnatural way.

Indoors at the reception, I started with this really cool hanging branch piece over the head table. Event Light added in twinkling lights, so it created a really pretty effect over the bridal party all night. I used a lovely stone urn for the centrepieces, and tucked in white flowers along with a ton of greenery.

Beach Engagement Session with Full Floral Crown

Not every girl can pull off a big, full flower crown. Jessica certainly can! I made this lush crown for her for her beach engagement session with Andrei, and it was sort of a trial run for her wedding day, to make sure that she liked the way the flower crown looked and felt on her.

A large flower crown like this can be challenging - I'm always worried that it's going to cast a shadow on the bride's face, and take all the attention in a photo. I want to see a bride's face in her photos! But, these images from Kampphotography of Jessica and Andrei were just beautiful!

By the way, I just love engagement or wedding photos at the beach! For Jessica and Andrei it was the perfect spot, as they love to spend time at the lake. But no matter where you vacation, beaches are a beautiful backdrop for photos. The calming colour palette of watery blues, stone greys, and sand, the endless shoreline...it's photo gold!

More from their wedding day coming soon :)

Christine's bridal bouquet was one of my absolute favourites of the year! It was just so much fun to put together. I chose so many fantastic flowers for her, and she loved everything ruffly and girly. It was such a pleasure to be a part of this wedding! Oh, and seriously - not that I need to point it out because I'm sure that every one will already see it...but how hot is this bridal party!? Special thank you to Curtis from Moore Photography for the great images!

PS An extra special congratulations to Christine and Brent whose next big adventure is parenthood!

Bridal Bouquet Ingredients: peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, spray roses, astilbe, Queen Anne's Lace, baby's breath, and eucalyptus.
