Intimate Fall Wedding at Deer + Almond
I can’t believe it’s been about a year since Jen and Aaron’s intimate fall wedding at Deer + Almond! It was such a beautiful, peaceful day and one that I was thrilled to be a part of. Jen is a really stylish person, and was pretty open to my suggestions as to flowers so with the combination of her fantastic taste and my creativity, I really loved what came together for them. And for goodness sake…her dress!!

Oh, how I loved this bouquet! A seasonal colour palette that was at once warm and romantic, built around peaches and rust with touches of coral and mauve tucked in. I used some incredible textures in here that are only available in the fall and that’s what made it so special! And doesn’t it look so great against the navy the bridesmaids wore, and with Jen’s incredible necklace?
Flower Ingredients: Ranunculus, roses, spray roses, mums, astrantia, ilex berry (oooo baby!), ninebark foliage, copper beech foliage, and ruscus.
The ceremony was held at The Canada Museum for Human Rights, on one of the upper terraces. For an intimate guest list, this space is PERFECT. The tyndall stone half wall, all of the natural light and the soaring ceilings all add up to a beautiful setting. We kept the decor simple here, with my copper arch simply strung with lightweight garlands of Italian ruscus.
I know I’ve said it before: I LOVE RESTAURANT WEDDINGS. This was my first time working at Deer + Almond and it was great! It’s a small space so the guest count was limited, and the room has some really interesting paintings and graffiti style art on the walls so you want to work with that. We kept the decor plan simple: fresh greenery with peach and orange blooms, and lots of candlelight. I know some people do not like floating candles because they are very '“typical,” but I don’t mind them at all! They’re more budget-friendly than pillar candles and most venues in Winnipeg don’t allow taper candles, so floating candles are a good way to bring height to the table.

Announcing the First Flower Therapy Class!
I totally get it. Winter is taking forever. And every winter, I reach a breaking point: I just need colour, lightness, and something to take me out of my every day dull.
So, I invite you to join my in my first Flower Therapy Class!
I want to share with you where this idea came from. Last winter, January and February were particularly stressful for me. There was something going on with my business that was out of my control (in fact, it was in the fairly pathetic control of Canada Post) and while it seemed like it should be a small thing, it was wreaking havoc on my business, and more importantly, my mental health. A very expensive parcel was lost in the mail, and the person to whom I was returning it was threatening to sue me for it. She is a small business owner as well, so I completely understood where her panic was coming from - she really needed that package. But aside from calling Canada Post every single day, sometimes several times a day, there was literally nothing I could do.
I needed a mental health day. In a month that was nothing but dreary outside and the constant stress of this person's threats on my mind, I needed to escape my life for a little while. And for me, that came in the shape of a day playing with flowers. I paid a visit to my wholesaler, where I picked up whatever I wanted. I chose a light, fresh, springy colour palette and flowers that I simply gravitated towards. My time that day was passed with slow movements, acknowledging the entrancing details of each stem, gently placing them into arrangements that I made for no one but myself.
I know that I'm not the only one out there for whom winter is intolerable. I know that I'm not the only one who needs a mental health day now and again. And I know I'm not the only one who craves colour in the midst of these dreary months. So I'm hosting this Flower Therapy Class and welcome anyone who fits into those categories above, or any other category that you fit into. Come and join me, play with flowers, and leave with a lovely arrangement that will inspire you and fill your home with cheer.
Registration is open now - I hope you'll join us! Seating is limited as our space is pretty small so if you're interested, make sure to head over to the registration page HERE as soon as you can!

Studio Tour! Behind the Scenes of Stone House Creative
I couldn't think of a better way to kick off blogging on my new site than with a behind-the-scenes look at my new studio! Earlier this summer, my friend Aly from Victoria Anne Photography joined me for a little tour of where I work. My husband and I moved last fall, purchasing this house specifically because it has a second garage, in the backyard, completely set up as a workshop. All I had to do was unpack my vases and build my cooler! The space is really ideal and I'm so excited to show it all off.
Coming Soon
Coming soon - something exciting, beautiful, and totally me. I can't wait to show it all off!
For now, a sneak peek from Brittany Mahood Photography.
