Whimsical Garden Inspired Wedding at the Gates on Roblin

I remember being excited when I received Thao’s initial inquiry. She described her vision of a whimsical, dreamy garden inspired wedding at the Gates on Roblin, wanting greenery intertwined with string lights on the ceiling. Suffice it to say, I was pretty enticed with this idea!

I remember being excited when I received Thao’s initial inquiry. She described her vision of a whimsical, dreamy garden inspired wedding at the Gates on Roblin, wanting greenery intertwined with string lights on the ceiling. Suffice it to say, I was pretty enticed with this idea!

And did you know, I’m actually a Preferred Vendor for The Gates? Check out what I designed for their 2019 wedding open house here!

Thao’s bouquet was one of the BEST smelling bouquets I’ve ever made, and it was all because of those garden roses! Bridal bouquet ingredients: pink o’hara garden roses, raspberry scabiosa, dahlias, locally grown lisianthus, ranunculus, waxflower, Queen Anne’s Lace, acacia and eucalyptus.

“It was an absolute dream come true working with Lauren on our wedding florals. She is absolutely brilliant – so creative and talented and truly passionate about her industry and craft. She took our idea of an ethereal whimsical garden feel, added her magic touch and brought the whole vision to life. The sweet scent of the beautifully ruffled pink O'Hara garden roses that she recommended is still etched in my mind!” - Thao and Marc

Floral Hair Comb - Wedding Flower Ideas in Winnipeg

These gorgeous portraits sure make me miss summer! I cannot wait for the days of green grass and the warm summer sun again.

Along with her bouquet, Thao requested a floral piece for her hair. We designed this textured comb, made in a way that it could be applied to her hair in a few ways. You can see that it was worn both with her hair up and her hair down and it looked awesome both ways!

I had nothing to do with their tea ceremony in the morning, but I just had to share this picture - isn’t it SO cute?

For the ceremony, Thao requested my copper arch with an asymmetrical application of fresh flowers that could be moved from location to location. I don’t typically like to have pieces that are going to be moved without me being there, but sometimes it’s just not an option. We first set up the arch outside of Thao’s parents’ home, so as guests arrived for the morning tea ceremony they walked in under the flowers. The entire arch was then moved to the church for the formal ceremony.

I love the way this design came together at The Gates! I was able to accomplish Thao’s vision of greenery floating above the dance floor on the string lights and it really did look SO pretty. It was light and airy, achieving that whimsical aesthetic.

We designed 2 centrepiece styles for the guest tables. The first was a greenery wreath that circled a trio of feminine toned taper candles set in brass candlesticks rented from Something Borrowed. The other half of the tables featured a large gold bowl (part of my rental inventory) with a mostly greenery arrangement that incorporated a few pops of locally grown flowers for colour.

Ethereal Beach Wedding in Gimli

Some clients come to me with very clear ideas of what they want their wedding to look like. Some weddings evolve stylistically over time. Kristene and Travis’ ethereal beach wedding in Gimli was actually a combination of both!

Kristene did have a pretty clear picture of what she liked: the colour palette of blush and light blue with lots of white was planned and set.

Kristene did have a pretty clear picture of what she liked: the colour palette of blush and light blue with lots of white was planned and set. The Gimli venue was booked and dreamed about. But Kristene was looking for a month-of wedding coordinator, as the wedding was somewhat of a destination wedding, and I happily recommended Emily from Feast & Festivities. She took care of the wedding coordination, and Kristene also hired her for event design, and that’s when the visual side of this wedding really started to come together. Emily took Kristene’s ideas, my plans for the florals, and made some serious magic happen.

Pretty in pink - and a bit of pale blue, as well. You know when you hear the phrase “cotton candy skies” and you can picture exactly what that sunset looks like? That’s what we were going for here.

Bridal Bouquet Ingredients: garden roses, ranunculus, locally grown lisianthus, delphinium, rice flower, and Queen Anne’s Lace with varied foliages.

When you’re getting married at the beach, the plan is, of course, to get married at the BEACH. But sadly, this day was not the best in the weather department. The skies were stormy most of the day, so the majority of the festivities were moved indoors. I’m so glad they managed to take some portraits outside though - wouldn’t you agree that the stormy blue gray skies are just the perfect compliment to this colour palette?

And as far as I’m concerned, the fireplace at Johnson Hall at the Gimli Waterfront Centre is quite a good backup for a ceremony space. The original design plan had the fireplace as the backdrop for the couple’s head table, so we had already planned for a thin eucalyptus garland along with the candles on the mantle. Simply moving in the floral arrangements that were designed for the ceremony in front of the fireplace was the only change that needed to happen! Kristene really liked the idea of the arrangements looking like they were growing out of the my wood stands (by the way, you can see much of my rental inventory here!), so I opted to use a very low design tray instead of a larger vase or urn.

The flowers in these arrangements were ALL locally grown here in Manitoba, complimented by imported foliage.

I really love the way that Feast & Festivities designed this room!

Emily does a beautiful job of conceptualizing floor plans and creating interest and movement throughout a room. It’s always a personal favourite of mine when we get to work with multiple table shapes and centrepiece styles.

We decided to design a fuller compote style arrangement for the long guest tables, complimented by simple candle clusters on the round tables. Kristene really loved a lot of crisp white, and the way Emily designed the entire room around that was quite breathtaking - and especially because the room itself is so nice! I think she layered something like 3 or 4 different white linens on each of the guest tables so that there would be a lot of visual texture. The round tables had a bit of a shimmer lace visible underneath, while the long tables were lined with a gauzy runner - the difference made simply by paying attention to the linens is huge!

I also love that the place settings pull in other elements from the wedding design - the smoke gray charger plate, the blue cut glass water goblets, and the sweet little vials of sand for each guest!

Intimate Backyard Wedding in Steinbach

Well, let me start this off by saying 2 words to you: DREAM WEDDING.

Sam and Kat’s backyard wedding at the family home in Steinbach was truly a dream wedding - there’s no other way to describe it! If I were getting married again now (to my husband, obvs), I would definitely want our celebration to look and feel something like this - though I wouldn’t have an easy time with keeping the guest list so intimate!

Ariana (one of the top wedding photographers in Manitoba AND the sister of the groom) messaged me about 5 weeks before the wedding asking if I could be a part of the Thursday afternoon affair. Technically I was planning to take the week off, BUT sometimes, you just can’t say no because the ask if just too good.

I have to say that I LOVE that they didn’t include flowers for the wedding party. Sam and Kat just wanted to keep the focus (and the $$$) on the things that were important to them: an amazing bouquet for her and boutonniere for him, the hat of all hats, and the reception table. This is such a good way to allow you to splurge a little more on the things that you care about the most!

Bridal Hat with Flower Crown - Bleached Ruscus and Toffee Rose

When Ariana first reached out to me, she sent me a few pictures of the backyard where everything was to take place, and a single inspiration picture of a bridal hat. The entire wedding was inspired by the palette of the florals tucked around this hat, and I really went for it. Seriously, this warm neutral palette! GAH!

I obviously loved the challenge of designing for the hat (from Lack of Color). It’s definitely something I hadn’t done before, but I basically designed it as a floral crown made to fit perfectly to the hat.

I also tucked a little bleached ruscus into Kat’s hair, which is just another reason why I LOVE being around on the wedding day!

Look guys, this intimate reception couldn’t have been more dreamy. One long table for about 30 guests, bistro lights criss crossing above, the warm summer breeze, and total freedom for me to design WHATEVER I wanted to. I chose to do a few long, low floral arrangements in the centre of the table, a collection of stem vases and petite arrangements, and mixed black metal candleholders and pillar candles.

I had such a lovely time making this reception design happen. It was an incredibly beautiful summer day (a Thursday!), a stunning Steinbach backyard, and the kindest people. I brought my baby with me and a couple of the bridesmaids just played with him in the shade and it was so awesome!

Elegant Peaches and Cream Wedding at Cielo's Garden

Mmmm, this bridal bouquet. About 6 weeks before the wedding, Carly told me that she wanted to add some colour to her otherwise white and green colour palette. She showed me an inspiration picture that had some oranges and peaches, and I was SO on board. Those additions bring lightness and freshness, and I think they look really good with the stormy grey/blues of the bridesmaid dresses, too.

June at Cielo’s Garden - two of my favourite things!

Carly was such a lovely, lovely person to work with. She was open to my suggestions and interested to hear what I had to say, which in my opinion, always results in the best possible end product! This wedding featured an incredible ceremony design, a delicious peaches and cream palette, some really juicy locally grown flowers (including a few stems from my own garden!) and an elegant reception design that I just can’t wait to share with you.

Carly really wanted to make a statement in the ceremony space. Like the rest of the flowers, this was originally going to be all white and green, which definitely would have been nice, but the added peach, pink, and orange tones really added dimension here. I love that this design really frames the couple in and creates a beautiful stage for their vows.

Amanda Douglas Events did a beautiful job of designing this reception space. Cielo’s Garden transitions really easily from a casual tent setting to an elegant, formal venue and this wedding was one of the most elegant that I’ve seen there! Gold-rimmed glassware and gold flatware, candle after candle after candle, and really pretty blue accents brought in through linens on the head table.

Carly chose a combination of fuller floral arrangements mixed with cut glass stem vases with petite arrangements and single stems.

Modern Rainbow Wedding at Whitetail Meadow

When Paige and Mark first reached out to me from Toronto, I was unsure that I could handle the scope of their wedding. I was going on mat leave a few weeks later and would be unavailable for much of their planning time…but sometimes, a wedding is just TOO GOOD to say no to. Case in point, this modern rainbow wedding at Whitetail Meadow!

Then I talked with my girl Deanna from Deer Dutch Creative, and we came up with a new arrangement: we would work collaboratively between our two companies, tag-teaming the floral design and assembling the most amazing team to bring this day to life.

P&M 0311.jpg
Paige & Mark 0527.jpg
P&M 0433.jpg

The first thing you’ll probably notice is that this wedding had SUCH AN AMAZING COLOUR PALETTE. As in, we basically got to design with every amazing colour under the sun. Paige wanted a bold red bouquet, and then we started working more colour in throughout the rest of the designs.

P&M 0428.jpg
P&M 0430.jpg
P&M 0426.jpg

The original plan for the ceremony was to use a low hanging branch as a sort of natural arch, but we decided that wasn’t quite reliable enough. We pivoted directions and had this 2 piece gold arch custom-made, and I envisioned floral pieces “growing” naturally down the length of the aisle. We decided to colour block these pieces as well, while keeping the arch itself in the reds to coordinate with Paige’s bridal bouquet.

Paige & Mark 0678.jpg

One thing we knew we wanted to do was have some serious colour play throughout the reception tent, graduating from one shade to the next as we moved down the tables. We started one end with yellows and ending with blues on the other end. Deanna designed some gorgeous red pieces just for the bridal party tables, in the centre of the tent, and we got to use these INCREDIBLE locally grown peonies that were the perfect finishing touch. Coloured candles played a large role as well, which I really wanted to do to blend the overall palette from floral section to section. Tall pillar candles were mixed in with vibrantly coloured votives, as well and it was a lot of fun to design the table plan.

Another element you’ll be sure to notice is the greenery on the ceiling! The couple asked for some kind of greenery statement and we played around with a few different ideas but weren’t sure what the right one would be, mostly because we didn’t have a solid understanding of how we could actually install it - the tent that the ceremony was in wouldn’t actually be set up until about a month before the wedding! We ended up working with the lighting company to have them install cable the day before the wedding, so that on the wedding day we could simply attach the garlands to the cable. It worked out great...although it wasn’t me who was up on a 20 foot ladder, lol!
