Beautiful Ideas for Floral Wedding Cakes

Confession: I didn't have a cake at my wedding. Instead, we went for a dessert buffet that was entirely chocolate-themed, and that worked for us. But, that meant that we didn't get to have anything as beautiful as these wedding cakes commanding our guests' attention. I love using fresh flowers on wedding cakes - we can use them to create such gorgeous designs and bring depth and life to a cake table. Here are some of my favourites!

This one is hands-down my favourite: a simple cake design accented by an amazing amount of florals. This floral wreath at the base of the cake is absolutely stunning: peonies, pieris, frittilaria, roses, lisianthus, scabiosa, and bleeding heart. I seriously want to do a floral wreath at the base of EVERY. SINGLE. WEDDING. CAKE.

Christine combined this cute calligraphy-inspired cake topper with a floral accent. Ivy stems, a spotlight garden rose, a few ranunculus blooms, and some baby's breath perfectly tied together her bridal bouquet, centrepieces and the cake!

I LOVE a good buttercream cake. Touches of floral accent the tiers of this simple buttercream cake in a sweet, simple way that also brought a bold pop of colour.

Emily from Feast & Festivities had a fantastic vision for this baby shower cake. It was dripping in yellow (white) chocolate and Kayla from Laugh Love Cakes added fresh orange ranunculus and red alstroemeria with plenty of foliage to create a fun, vibrant, and kid-friendly design. I loved it!

This wedding had an elegant feel, so I really liked working with High Tea Bakery to add these floral touches to a buttercream cake. Marsala toned roses with touches of blue eryngium and blush spray roses created a really pretty effect!

I LOVE this sweet display of naked cakes (that's what it's called when there isn't a ton of icing on the cake...see? They're naked!). Kayla from Laugh Love Cakes baked up this beautiful assortment of cakes and all I did was leave her a bunch of flowers and greenery to play with. I love that each is a little different!

Fiesta Garden Party Wedding with Amanda Douglas Events

This was another of the fun wedding inspiration designs that I got to be a part of through the Wedding Planners Styled Editorial I organized with Host Winnipeg at Cielo's Garden

Amanda Douglas Events conceptualized a fun, modern, fiesta-inspired garden party. I've really been desiring bright, bold colours and the way Amanda used bright tones mixed with natural textures and coloured glass was so much fun.

Brunch-Inspired Wedding Inspiration at Cielo's Garden

It's time for a little more colour and a lot of fun! Emily from Feast & Festivities created this adorable tablescape at our recent styled photoshoot day, co-hosted by Stone House Creative and Host Winnipeg. I provided the florals, going a little bolder with brighter pinks and I had a lot of fun with this design. Emily brought it all together with some cute DIYs (mini pancakes, anyone?) and her signature, fantastic style.

Emily also styled an ADORABLE bridal session, which you'll see at the end of this post. I love how her personal style shows though in that cute hat! And, I just loved the bouquet that I designed for this. Sometimes, all of the flowers just go into the right places and it comes together really nicely - that was the case here!

Bridal Bouquet Ingredients

I'm so thrilled and honoured that this bouquet was just selected by Weddingbells as one of their "Most Beautiful Bouquets of 2016!" You can see the full feature here.

I love breaking a bouquet down into it's ingredients - I'm not much of a cook (though I love to bake!), so this is my version of a recipe card. I designed this bouquet over the winter at our Flower Friend Day, and I worked with a few flowers that I don't normally get to use, along with some standards that will always be favourites. It was nice to try new things and see how they worked together! It was also great to use a colour palette that I don't typically work with. Here's hoping that my 2017 brides will want me to use more colour in their floral designs!

Organic Pastel Wedding Inspiration at Cielo's Garden

This past winter, I felt my creativity genes itching and really wanted to get out and do something a little bit different, in a different way than I had in the past. So, I approached Jaclyn of Host Winnipeg to co-host an entire day of mini styled photoshoots with me, working with a different Winnipeg wedding planner on each one. We invited a handful of great wedding planners, gave them the overall colour palette, and simply asked them to show up on the day of the shoot and get creative! I designed a number of different centrepieces, Jaclyn and I set up table after table full of tabletop details, styling props stationery samples from Keeks Paper Co, and linens and decor rentals from Planned Perfectly. Oh, and we were working out at Cielo's Garden - such a beautiful space!

Today I'm sharing photos from Pantel Photography of the organic pastel tablescape I designed in collaboration with Host Winnipeg, and I'll be sharing more over the coming months from the other wedding planners' tables! Jaclyn and I started off with this gorgeous, hand-died muslin table runner from The Flower Cult. The stormy grey-blue colour was the perfect shade to bring depth to the other pastel colours that I worked in through the softer pink and purple florals. I chose a stone urn for the centrepiece, because I just love the natural texture the stone brings to a tablescape, especially for a wedding that's more garden-inspired like this one. Olive sprigs at each placesetting, wood candlestick holders, and slate-tinted glassware pulled the design together beautifully. And I just loved tucking that last little bit of foraged lilac into the centrepiece!

We also designed a mini bridal portrait session with models Eva and Vanessa. I just loved working with Makeup Expressions by Rimpal (makeup) and Krystle Taylor (hair). The bridal gown was provided by Bliss Bridal Boutique and the bridesmaid dress from Mad About Style.

I'm finding myself gravitating towards smaller bridal bouquets these days! While I'll always love a juicy, lush bouquet, this petite posey was refreshing. It features quicksand roses, amnesia roses, and  ocean song roses along with Queen Anne's Lace and locally foraged spirea.
