Bold Hued Wedding Flowers
I'm one of those people who tends to choose neutral or pastel colours and has a huge black section in my closet, and yet always finds myself drawn to bold, bright hues. So earlier this year, I decided to give in to my secret love for bold colours! I cannot get enough of those bright magenta anemones!
Thank you Victoria Anne Photography for the bright photos!
Meaningful Wedding Stationery Ideas
I hope you've seen our recent features on Vale & Vine! For this shoot, we wanted to focus on the ceremony and the beautiful, meaningful moments that should be celebrated. I loved the stationery pieces that Robin Egg Blue designed, and think they should get their own spotlight. This is the perfect example why you should hire wedding pros that you love, and then let them do their thing. Robin's vow booklets were just so perfect!
P.S. This gorgeous botanical design is available in Robin Egg Blue's "Off the Shelf" collection!
Modern Indoor Wedding Ceremony
And here is Part 2 of our recent ceremony shoot, as seen on Vale & Vine today. We were working with a loft sort of space, and I wanted to bring warmth to the look while doing something different, at the same time as not spending a ton of a bride's budget! We started with the draping design, and Planned Perfectly really made this look come alive. We wanted to do something different with the drape, pulling together that warm gold tone and a unique shape that hasn't been seen over and over again. Adding in a crescent wreath (I actually foraged the wreath form from branches in the winter, and and hung onto it knowing it would be perfect!) with just a few floral accents draws in the eye to the focal point, and it would be incredibly cost-effective for a bride, too. I love how this came together!

Romantic Ceremony Decor Inspiration
As promised, I'm excited to show more of my recent wedding ceremony inspiration, and today it's being featured on Vale & Vine! This is part of 2 designs for a beautiful ceremony, brought together by my amazing creative team: Victoria Anne Photography, Planned Perfectly, Robin Egg Blue Design, Bob & Page Salon, 2 Chicks and a Bag of Makeup, and Bliss Bridal Boutique.
When conceptualizing this shoot, I wanted to focus on the ceremony. So often, the ceremony is glossed over when everyone really knows that those few minutes are the most important of the wedding day, and even of the couple's relationship up to this point. For this look, I wanted to design a romantic space where the couple could feel a sense of intimacy, even in a room crowded with people staring at you. I think this petal altar does just that, and it's cost-effective to boot.
The back of this Nicole Miller gown from Bliss Bridal is just stunning. Doesn't it add a unique touch?
We still have a completely separate ceremony look to showcase next week, and we've also got beautiful stationery ideas coming from Robin Egg Blue Design that I'm looking forward to showing off! Keep your eyes peeled :)
How to Take Care of Your Wedding Flowers
When I'm working on a wedding, I go through a number of steps to condition and take care of the flowers so that they're in the best shape possible for your wedding day. This includes proper cleaning of the stems, making sure everything is in water, using floral preservatives to help the flowers take in as much water as possible and eliminate bacterial growth, and keeping everything refrigerated. But once the flowers are delivered to you, it's your job to take care of them so that they continue to look great. And let's face it, in Manitoba, that can be hard.

SUMMER WEDDINGS
With the heat of summer, there are a few varieties of flowers and foliage that I'll probably warn you about. Some flowers just don't hold up well in heat, and there's really nothing that be done about that. But for everything else, there are a few things that I'm always going to recommend that you do:
-Keep your bouquets in water as much as possible. I always deliver each bouquet with a glass vase with just enough water. When you're driving around on the wedding day, when you're taking pictures without the flowers, and even when you're at the reception, be sure to pop them back into those vases.
-Keep your flowers out of the sun as much as possible. When my girlfriend got married a few years ago, the humidity made the temperature reach over 45 degrees. We melted...and my phone shut off because it reached "dangerous temperatures!" I did my best to put those bouquets in the shade when we were taking pictures and keep them in the air conditioned vehicle whenever we could, as well!
WINTER WEDDINGS
Winter temperatures are another thing altogether. Just as your skin can get frostbite, so can flowers. When I'm talking about winter temperatures, I really mean anything below zero degrees celcius.
-Order a second boutonniere for your groom. If you're taking any pictures outside at all, that boutonniere will freeze (aka it will end up browned). Plus, he will inevitably put his parka on over top of his suit, and the boutonniere will be crushed.
-Keep your bouquets wrapped and covered at all times when out of doors. They will be delivered wrapped in plastic, and it's up to you to make sure that the covering is tightly secured every time you move the bouquet boxes from place to place. If the cold air gets at them, guess what's going to happen?
-Don't leave your flowers in an unheated car or building. This might mean that you plan to take some indoor pictures with your flowers, and some outdoor pictures without your flowers. Given that you're spending a lot of money on your flowers, you want to make sure that they're going to last for you!
