Dreamy Pastel Wedding Editorial

I was so happy to be part of this dreamy pastel wedding editorial this past January, with Kayla Lagos Events. Kayla presented a gorgeous vision for a soft, delicate palette, featuring fluttery and whimsical flowers.

It’s always fun to get creative during the off season. I don’t usually have many winter weddings, so it’s a different set of flowers, palettes, and inspiration to work through and I really enjoyed this!

We all love the champagne tower trend, but I have to say that this cake from Sugar & Salt was the highlight for me! The colours of the buttercream flowers were perfect, and it was just really pretty, too.

I also loved the floral confetti on the table. It made a big statement without taking a lot of budget to achieve!

And aren’t Sarah and Scott so cute? They’re a real life couple, getting married this October. I can’t wait for their wedding day!

Luxurious Pastel Bridal Bouquet - How Much Do Wedding Flowers Cost in Winnipeg

How much do you think this bridal bouquet costs?

Bridal Bouquet Ingredients:

Garden Spray Roses
Dutch Lisianthus
Clematis
Phalaenopsis Orchids
Delphinium
Allium
Stock
And finished with hand died silk ribbon from Stella Wolfe

BRIDAL BOUQUET COST: $465

Okay, so for those of you who are freaking out about the cost of this bouquet: don’t worry. I am, too 😂 Here’s the thing: this shoot took place in January, when zero locally grown flowers were available and we had to import everything (with garden spray roses from Japan and lisianthus from Holland), AND I just happened to use everything expensive. It’s a tricky habit lol!

But woah baby, was it worth it. Those orchids!! I died. The allium! Gosh darn it. The lisianthus, as expensive as it was 😍 And I think it paired quite perfectly with those delicately ribbed sleeves you can add on to the Lovenote Bride “Marion” gown (designed and made in Canada!!).

This palette! Obviously we shot this in winter so it had that freshness when we were most dying for it, but I think this feminine palette could transfer easily to spring and summer as well!

Lavender, peach, soft blue, soft pink, mauve and springy green

Kayla wanted to play with a few looks, mixing and matching rental options to create do a “one look, two ways” concept.

If you’re seating your guests at rectangular banquet tables, make sure you get the width of them. At the Manitoba Club, they use a “king’s table,” which is nice and wide (that’s what you see here). A lot of venues use narrower tables, which simply gives less space to add in decor. You need to be aware of how much space you have to add in flowers, candles, glassware, and so on.

With this table, we had a lot of space to feature 2 fuller centrepieces, with 3 petite modern stem vase style arrangements of pink anthurium. We tucked in taper candles and still had plenty of negative space — which is crucial in a design. A lot of the time I feel that tables are overloaded, but it can be the negative space that sets off design.

Fun little personal fact: this is the last time I’ve straightened my hair! January 26. My hair is wavy but I’ve never known how to deal with it, so I decided that I would just stop straightening it and see what happens. I still have no idea how to deal with it but I’m enjoying letting my hair just do what it does.

Matt and Amanda's Spring Wedding at Cielo's Garden

Early June is amazing time for flowers - all of your favourites are available. Peonies, tulips, iris - plus, it's the perfect time to indulge in a palette of pastels! Matt and Amanda's wedding at Cielo's Garden was in early June on one of the most lovely days imaginable.

I loved working with Amanda on her flowers. She let me play with her pastel palette, so we used the most amazing soft pink hydrangea, light pink peonies, butter yellow stock, lavender stock and freesia, white and yellow iris, and delicious Queen Anne's Lace. I also tucked in Solomon's Seal and eucalyptus foliage.

I love these photos from Rachwal Photography!

I had been looking forward to this ceremony design for months. Amanda was open to whatever I suggested, and I had been wanting to suspend a garland from the open ceiling of Cielo's chapel for a long time. I added in a floral spotlight in the same pastel tones in her bouquet, and later I found out that throughout the ceremony, butterflies were attracted to the flowers. Isn't that beautiful?

The long farm tables at the reception were laid with Italian Ruscus stems, with loose blooms tucked in throughout the length of the tables. I loved the taper candles and other accents that Amanda selected.

Trash the Dress Bouquet

It's not everyday that a bride trashes her dress - and in my mind, it should be no day that a bouquet gets trashed :) Anyways, earlier this summer the lovely Jennifer and Matt asked me to design a bouquet for their trash the dress session with kampphotography. There was a lot of rain on their actual wedding day, so they were looking forward to getting some beautiful photos without soggy weather.

For this bouquet, I needed to break the rules that I had made for myself. It's important to me that I always stretch and grow my skills and style, and when I started off making this bouquet it was classic and traditional. Then, I realized that I was super bored with what I had made. It was lovely and likely would have been perfect for someone else, but it just did not feel like me. So? I foraged in the back lane, popped in lavender and scabiosa from my garden, and created a much more interesting shape and colour gradation. Loved it in the end!

A Pastel Study

I'm in love with colour. But, I'll be honest - I tend to be one of those people who can be afraid to use a lot of colour in my daily life (except for the fact that I just bought a teal couch!). So for people like me, working with pastels for your wedding palette might just be an awesome idea. When I say pastels, I don't just mean the little girl shades of pale pink and purple (not that there's anything wrong with that). What I would love to see is more brides using pastels outside of the typical. Move into those soft blues (spoiler alert: blue can be REALLY hard to use in wedding flowers!), or pop in some subdued yellow or orange for a sorbet tone.

Head's up: I realize that I may or may not have gone a little overboard with the wild and botanical shape of the following bouquet. I know. But I love it! I'm a believer in letting flowers do what they want, when the occasion suits it.

The pops of pale lilac in here are from locally grown scabiosa and sweet pea. Don't they add such a nice little accent? It doesn't overwhelm the colour palette, but rather acts as a pretty colour bridge between the soft blue and the pale pink.

I seriously just LOVE the bluey purple delphinium in this bouquet. It was so lush and healthy, and is this not the perfect way to bring in a touch of a blue tone while amping up the pastel factor?
