Helllloooooo super fun and dramatic ceremony!
The ceremony design was Erin’s first priority, and in fact, when we first met to discuss their flowers and overall event design, the only inspiration images she had were of ceremonies. They wanted The Gates to not look like The Gates. We had some logistical challenges to figure out (namely, the ceremony and reception were taking place in the same room and would require a complete flip during cocktail hour).
I immediately knew that I wanted to create a really cool aisle. At first we looked into building a platform aisle and painting it in this magenta tone, but that wasn’t a logistical feasibility. Then, knowing that the aisle would also become the dance floor, we decided to explore a patterned decal. We worked with Two Fold Paper Co on all the stationery, including the pattern for the aisle (we just adjusted the scale of it to ensure it wouldn’t make people dizzy on the aisle!).
My original plan was also to hang flower clouds above the aisle, but I didn’t end up pitching it due to budget constraints. Cue my excitement when, maybe 6 or so weeks before the wedding, Erin asked if we could add hanging flowers above the aisle. HELLO. Yes. The answer is yes. The BTS of how I made this is actually my highest performing reel of all time, in case you want to check it out here!
Now, I am no photoshop or canva expert. In fact, we all laughed at the rendering I put together below (it’s like my favourite ugly child…like it’s kind of pathetic but I’m also so proud of it and it took me forever lol) BUT can we acknowledge that the mockup was SO close to reality? I’m so pleased with this before/after and how this ceremony design all came together.
We had Creating a Scene custom-paint the seating chart signs in the palette, which we actually installed double-sided so we could have the late night treat menu displayed on it.
For the bridesmaids (all Erin’s beautiful sisters!), we designed single-variety bouquets and I love how chic they were with the women’s black dresses.
Have I mentioned before how much I love a room reveal moment? Eek ✨✨ The middle image above is Erin and me locking eyes and both being so freaking excited about how gorgeous and how perfectly them it all was.
Once the ceremony was over, the drape came down to reveal the dining tables, which we had to shift into place and finish setting during cocktail hour. There was a lot of running around, but it worked so smoothly.
We chose a combination of long tables and round, with coordinating dusty rose velvet linens and toffee belize linens. I chose a white chivari chair for its' clean, classic appeal, and added in taper candles in 4 coordinating shades of the palette.
We wanted to add touches of the wavy stationery trend, so we played with that on the personalized menus, and we backed the table numbers with the same graphic print as the aisle decal.
The party was of utmost importance. They wanted fun food, killer music, and an amazing dance party. As you can see, mission accomplished. I wish I was there for this part — they obviously had the best time. I love the enormous cut outs of their head (my husband suggested we also make decals of their faces to stick on the bathroom mirrors but that got vetoed), and we really went all for it with the late night snacks. All their favourite junk food was served, including McDonald’s blizzards with custom E&D wrappers.
This was truly such a fun wedding to get to be part of. The couple knew that having a great time (both for themselves and their guests!) was their top priority and really let that influence all the design related decisions that we made. They are also enjoyable people to be around and to work with. Thank you, Erin and Daniel, for trusting me with your design and being such wonderful people!
Once again, I absolutely couldn’t have done this alone! A big thanks to my team who worked a long day to make this amazing design happen; Deanna, Vanessa, Emily, Fareedah — you guys are the MVPs!

Colourful and Fun Winnipeg Art Gallery Wedding
It’s always fun to design for someone I know! Katelin is my brother-in-law’s sister, so I was excited from the start. It also became the perfect combination of elements — the WAG, juicy colour, a collab with Soiree Event Planning, my cute niece and nephew as the flower girl and ring bearer…everything was awesome!
If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you’ll know I’m an unapologetic colour lover. This wedding shows you exactly why!

Another day, another one of my favourite colour palettes 😍😍 Katelin was totally on board for colour and I was thrilled. She was really drawn to oranges, and Soiree created this lovely palette of lavenders, peaches, a pop of orange so it wasn’t overwhelming, and a nice base of soft pinks. Some people think neutrals are only white/grey/beige…in my opinion, soft pink is totally a neutral.
Another bonus of August weddings — the LOCAL FLOWERS. Ugh they just make all the difference in the world. We had a ton of locally grown goods for this wedding.
Bridal Bouquet Ingredients: Locally grown foxglove, sweet pea, zinnias, and lisianthus along with cafe latte garden roses, anemones, and ranunculus.
(Pause for a moment to notice my ADORABLE (sassy) niece as flower girl!!)
This ceremony arch was so delicious. We’ve designed similar styles many times, but never in this palette and it was SO juicy and yummy. We wanted it to be fuller at the base and lighter at the top, in part because we were on the WAG rooftop, so we needed to heavily weight the base and ensure it was sturdy enough to not blow over.
Those orange dahlias were total perfection, and added just the right change in texture to pop in here.
Excuse the interruption while I tell you WHY YOU ABSOLUTELY WANT TO HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER. There’s no knowing what’s going to happen at your wedding. For example, there might be a wasp infestation…
While we were setting up the ceremony, there were a few wasps buzzing around and then a few more and then a few more…and I thought “this seems like more than usual” while Deanna was this close to losing her ever-loving mind over them. I walked over to the stone/tree area along the side of the rooftop, and realized I could hear a lot of buzzing. There were hundreds of wasps. I’m known for exaggeration, but there were HUNDREDS.
I went to Andrea from Soiree right away and let her know that we had an issue. And professional that she is, they took care of it. They had to call in an exterminator, who came in SO quickly, and move the cocktail hour from the rooftop to the Skylight Gallery. There were still wasps buzzing around during the ceremony BUT not a single sting because they had been sprayed and were on their way out. Soiree took care of all of this behind the scenes, and didn’t even worry the couple with the details.
SO YEAH. Hire a wedding planner. I’ve got a few recommendations for planners that we love, if you want (and yes, Soiree is on that list!).
Can we take a moment to talk about HOW LUCKY we got with the artwork in Eckhardt Hall?! Dang. One of the things about having a wedding in an art gallery is that you never know what the artwork itself is going to be. I know this very vibrant, colour-celebrating exhibit isn’t ideal for everyone but it was incredibly perfect for Katelin and Derek.
One of the design elements I was MOST looking forward to for Katelin and Derek’s wedding was the base palette of monochromatic pinks at the reception: light pink linen, pink glassware, pink vases, and then of course, tying pink into the flowers with vibrant pops of orange and lavender.
I LOVE how this gave a soft and fresh feeling base for the entire event — definitely something to consider for yourself!
A lot of the time, people get stuck in the idea of “white plus my accent colours” or “our main colour is x and therefore that’s what our linen needs to be.” That’s not necessarily true — I think it can work a lot better if you choose something as your neutral, and use it heavily as a base throughout. Then add your primary colour as a focal point but in fewer areas, and that’s what’s going to pop! Like here, the neutral is the soft pink, and the focal colour(s) are the lavender and orange.
Katelin comes from a family of dance-loving people — I wish I could have been there to see it in person! I am a horrible dancer, but I do love it and wish that I could. At my sister and brother-in-law’s wedding, their parents and friends just had their way with the dance floor and it was so impressive.
A huge thanks to my amazing team of freelancers who helped make this floral magic come together! My associate designer Deanna, Andrea from Addison Taylor Designs, and Andrea from Cameo Flowers. The WAG has a shorter setup timeline (which makes sense, they are open to the public during the day!), so when it comes time to setup, it’s GO TiME and all hands on deck. So grateful for these hands and the way they made my vision come together.

Luscious Lavender and Peach Wedding Editorial
If I were only allowed to use one word to describe the floral vibes for this editorial shoot, it would be “JUICY.” Everything about this luscious lavender and peach design made me crave fruit and candy. It was just delicious!
I worked with Eventzy on this project as an editorial to be featured in the Wonderful Wedding Show magazine. It was such an honour to be asked by them; they really wanted to go for it and make a bit statement, and I was so thrilled to make it a success for them.

This editorial was featured in the Wonderful Wedding Show’s magazine. You can find it here!
Bridal bouquet ingredients: Lavender stock, pink anthurium, peach Juliet garden rose, barista rose, coolwater rose, peach and orange ranunculus, lavender spray roses, raspberry scoop scabiosa, and purple phaelanopsis orchids.
The circular stage was the PERFECT altar. Eventzy had it custom made and I’m very into it!
I created this hanging piece (two thumbs up for venues with open rafters!) and encircled the stage with arrangements and smilax vine and I love the lush effect. The aisle was lined with plenty of candlelight.
And just WHAT A GREAT PALETTE. Sometimes we’ll choose to keep one section of the floral designs more or less subdued, or adjust the colour palette throughout the event, but for this one I wanted the colour to be EVERYWHERE.
Fun fact: I got trapped in the elevator during setup. It was a slightly terrifying start to the day but it ended up just fine 😂
Alright, let’s talk about this hanging piece over the dining table! This was a BIG SUCKER. Like 8x10 or something like that! To save on cost, we first covered the frame with faux greenery from House of Silk. Then Deanna and I went in and weaved through a ton of smilax vine — you can’t even see the faux greenery at all. We then strung up individual flowers, bloom by bloom. Again, we used a few stems of faux orchids which had a nice long line, and then added in plenty of roses. They brought the freshness and the scent we were looking for, and dang, the colour!
On the table, we went for mixed sizes of arrangements in cute clear glass vases from my rental inventory. Aren’t these pieces so cute! They pulled through all the colour, and played nicely against the copper flatware and pink water goblets.
We also did a second centrepiece style — the tree! House of Silk created a small tree base, which I then weaved through fresh vine. That made it a lot larger and gave that natural feeling, while having the faux base as a solid structure to work with.
We also added in a lot of lavender stock and lavender spray roses to bring in some colour. I chose to keep the floral palette in the tree monochromatic so that it didn’t feel overwhelming. And for large pieces like this, unless you have a very large budget, a monochromatic look will give you a more impressive visual statement.
I loved the brighter coloured candles at the base to add a little more vibrancy!
AND THE FRICKING CAKE. Jenna Rae Cakes nailed it, once again. The sugar orchids were absolutely incredible. I have a gluten allergy so I never get to eat cake (granted, this one was a faux cake) but the fondant was real and it smelled so delicious.
Wedding design tip: if your ceremony and reception are in the same space, I LOVE utilizing your ceremony floral feature as a way to display your cake. If you’re going to invest in a cake, then give it a serious moment to shine!

Creative Rock N Roll Rainbow Wedding in Winnipeg
Sam and Evan’s rock-n-roll themed rainbow wedding was definitely a career highlight for me. Everything about it was SO creative, so well thought-out. They clearly put in so much effort to consider making their wedding an amazing experience for all of their guests, as well as for themselves. The personalization level was top-notch. The music was amazing. The ceremony was so engaging.
And obviously, the florals were 🤌🏻 You know I LIVE for colour and this palette and overall design that Soiree Event Planning created was just DIVINE and such a delight to flower for.

There are endless things to say about how wonderful this wedding was. They hosted their guests on Sam’s parent’s private property in Charleswood — it’s one of those amazing places where you don’t realize the yard is going to be big enough and then you walk out the back door and discover that it’s TOTALLY PERFECT.
The ceremony faced the river, with a clear top tent installed beside it. Guests entered through the house, enjoyed a welcome cocktail on the patio, and then walked across the shaded lawn to a long, narrow aisle. Samantha’s walk down the aisle was breathtaking — it was deliciously dramatic, with her beige veil with custom embroidery catching the breeze.
The couple are music lovers, and came up with a clever wedding slogan: “Stairway to Evan.” This was embroidered on Sam’s veil and it was just so stunning. And I mean, her dress. Yes. I know that a colourful dress is not for everyone, but I think we can all agree that her gown was spectacular.
Given the colour in her dress, I wanted to minimize the colours in her bouquet. We definitely wanted to hit the creamy/beige tones, and the red. I decided to add in the violet to play off the rest and just love how it worked. This was one of my fave bouquets of the year, and Sam’s, too — Sam had it preserved by Stephanie Singh in Toronto and sent me a picture of her tear drops on the box as she packed it up! Click here to see how it turned into an incredible art piece.
Bridal Bouquet Ingredients: anthurium, nina and sahara roses, lavender sweet pea, red ranunculus, and lavender phalaenopsis orchids.
Sam’s career is in the colour world, so she had a ton of Pantone swatches that she thought could be used. Enter, the creative genius of Michelle from Soiree. She took the couple’s love for Big White (the ski hill where they first met, had their first kiss, and have vacationed many times) and transformed these Pantone swatches into an art piece / photo backdrop inspired by the mountain ranges.
The Big White theme kept coming, with this incredible seating chart also conceptualized by Soiree. They took the run map and created individual lift tags for each guest, which told guests which table they were at as well as became their ticket to get into the after party. ADORABLE.
And obviously, we added some slick colour blocked floral to enhance it.
This isn’t the first time I’ve done a rainbow wedding with Soiree — we did one at Whitetail Meadow a few years ago, but with a very different overall style. Take a look!
OHHHHKAY. The ceremony florals were my favourite. Evan constructed the open air chapel beams — amazing. We went back and forth on a few ideas for aisle florals, and always knew that we wanted a dramatic altar with colour-blocked floral pillars. They needed to be pretty tall and full to suit the scale of the white aisle beams.
Down the aisle, I decided to grow up clustered florals around the chapel uprights. We wanted to camoflauge any grass damage (there wasn’t much, in the end) and just blend amp up the colour and the garden-inspired ambiance even more.
I could have lived here happily for the rest of my life.
And here comes the tent! The Soiree team worked SO diligently on this layout to maximize the design and it paid off. White linens paired with clear and smoke chairs, to set a minimal base. The tables were carefully laid out to colour block the entire tent. We decided on three different centrepiece styles (a full floral arrangement in a compote, a low floral arrangement with no visible vase, and a clustering of unique stem and smaller vases), per colour. This meant that my team never made the same arrangement more than 3 or 4 times — it was so refreshing and creatively inspiring.
My favourite part of the tablescapes was the custom-made, colour-blocked velvet charger plates. The Soiree team handmade them all and anytime I asked them “isn’t that going to be a big project?!” Michelle would say, “oh, it’s not bad! You just do this and do this and and and” and I was astonished. But the effort was OBVIOUSLY worth it.
The head table was so perfectly coordinated to hit the entire rainbow palette with detailed colour-blocking. The charger plates lined up perfectly with the centrepieces, and lined up perfectly with the seating. You’ll notice a mix of velvet and leather chairs and sofas used for seating for the wedding party at the head table, and we sprinkled in bud vases and candles in the entire range of colours down the length of the table. So fun!
I also had Meg Does Pottery, a local artist, create a couple of ADORABLE bud vases custom for the head table in the red/lilac palette. They’re on my shelf and I will love them forever.
My team was SO mighty. I’m so grateful for their hard work! It’s always a long week, and a long wedding day, and it’s so rewarding to see it all come together but it’s exhausting nonetheless.
Deanna, Emily, Vanessa, Andrea, Chad, Tricia — thank you all SO much. My hands certainly couldn’t have gotten this much done alone.

Wedding Colour Palettes Featuring Lilac
The fashion girlies are all wearing lilac this year, and we’re seeing that filter into your wedding palettes.
It can be tricky to use something so trendy in a fresh way. But, lucky for us, lilac is one of those shades that you can use in so many different ways to evoke a different design style. Here are some of my favourites!

Oftentimes, it can be tricky to use something so trendy in a fresh way. But, lucky for us, lilac is one of those shades that you can use in so many different ways to evoke a different design style. here are some of my favourites!
First things first: feeling stuck? One of my favourite places to find colour palette inspiration is in fabric. Take a look below and tell me you’re not inspired. Another way to find colour palettes that sing to you is in art! I love looking at abstract art and seeing how different shades and tones interact.
I’m keeping things easy here, with just a few colours in each of the palettes below. But, I often find that the most exhilarating palettes are those that are broad and bold, so don’t be afraid to take one of the ideas below as a starting point and then layer in other ideas. Don’t just go with 2 colours. We need to blend and create movement, mkay?
Lilac and Peach/Orange
This is undoubtedly one of my favourite combinations of the year. Whether you’re going a bit more subtle with the peach or you want to go bold with orange, these combinations pair so beautifully and feels juicy, fresh, and will legit make you crave candy.
Coral and raspberry are natural additions to this palete!

Lilac with Pastel Blue and Pink
Pastels are always an easy go-to. If you’re inspired by all things feminine, ruffly, and delicate, then this is a natural choice for you. It works great in a ballroom setting, it works great in a garden setting. I’d love to see this paired with adorable butterflies (Golden Age Botanicals makes AMAZING ones you could tuck into your bouquet!!). K call me. I want to do this.

Lilac, Grey, and Peach
Another option if your style is naturally feminine, I love that this digs into the cool tones. You can have a lot of fun with smokey greys (these smoke glassware!) and them amping it up with metallic gold.
Lilac and Red
Modern, bold, chic. I need more of this in my life.
This is giving sleek, rock and roll, bold and fearless. It’s giving red lips and a feather dress. It’s giving a killer pair of heels.
Floral Design by Isibeal Studio / See it all here
Lilac with Gold and Olive
This one takes a more practised hand to oversee, but I think there’s a lot that can be done here. You’re going to need to do some really solid blending, bringing in other tones to make it work.
