It’s a bit tricky to envision a wedding design when the reception venue hasn’t actually been built yet. When I was first brought on board for Ana and Sam’s wedding, Hawthorn Estates was in the construction process, but having seen their design boards, I knew it was going to be an incredible space that merged rustic with modern and totally elevated the typical barn venue. I was right - they did an incredible job of creating an elegant space with hints of rustic that don’t take barn too literally. The timbers, from the West Coast of Canada, bring a lot character and the overall design with a loft space for cocktails is welcoming and warm without being cramped.
The vision for Ana and Sam’s wedding was luxurious, with a feminine fall palette featuring wine reds with accents of pink and cream. They also planned to bring in a slight wine theme, which was fun to interpret. Ana definitely wanted a large bouquet and liked a modern, garden-inspired cascade shape and I took it from there. When the venue’s construction was completed, we went out for a site visit and that’s when things really started coming together: the gorgeous stone fireplace was an obvious focal point, as was the area for the head table, perfectly designed for hanging installations above. And I couldn’t resist adding a little drama to the staircase which is positioned at the entrance to the dining area!
